| The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Az. Sept. 27, 1957 P.1 Untimely Death of ‘Pud’ Adair Shocks Friends Funeral services were planned for 1:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon of this week for Wendell H. (Pud) Adair whose sudden and untimely death Monday evening shocked and saddened his many friends in this community. Mr. & Mrs. Adair, who had been living in Prescott this summer, were having dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Don Skov of Wickenburg in a Prescott restaurant when he was stricken with a heart attack. Death came as he was being taken to a hospital. A widely known rodeo star and one of Arizona’s best calf ropers, he had lived here since 1936 when he came to Remuda Ranch as a wrangler, He was born November 24, 1915, in Chickasha, Okla., and was raised on a ranch near Santa Rosa, N. M. He was a wrangler at Remuda for four or five years and began his rodeo career in 1941. He performed in shows throughout the West and Northwest and in Canada. In 1951 he was ranked fourth in the nation in calf roping and he won the championship in that specialty for three consecutive years in local competition at the winter rodeos. He suffered a broken leg in rodeo competition in 1955 and since had retired to training horses for the Robert Kieckhefer K-4 Ranch near Prescott Highway just north of town. While a wrangler at Remuda Ranch here, he was married to Lorence (Sis) McCutcheon, who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Joan and four brothers, Howard, Leland (Tex), Holmes and Richard, all of California. Dr. Charles S. Poling was to conduct the funeral services at the Wickenburg Chapel with burial following in the Wickenburg Cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
