He was born Jan. 23, 1931 in Taylor, to Vern and Lena Hatch. He attended school in Snowflake, graduating in 1949. He married Thelma Rhoton and they moved to Bremerton, Wash. where he worked in the Naval Ship yard. He was able to work on several of the WWII battle ships. He moved back to Arizona in 1957.

He served on the Taylor Town Council, he served as Vice Pres. Of Taylor/Shumway Heritage Foundation, he was on the White Mtn. Regional Development Corporation board and was very interested and involved in the Taylor/Snowflake communities and cared about the people in them.

Taft was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was always faithful in his church services. He and Naomi served a mission in the Bishop's Storehouse and the Family History Center. He also served as scoutmaster for many years. Taft loved his grandkids, they made his world go round even when they were 'planting' his tools. He had a lot of experience and knowledge, was well read and he always had an answer. He loved to play the harmonica.
