The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Ariona 03/07/2003 Ira Gerald Wakefield, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 in Show Low. Gerald was born in Taylor, to Lansing Ira and Rhoda Jane Perkins Wakefield and is one of nine children. At the age of six, his dad made a cowpuncher out of him and he grew up a cowboy. He had several occupations, including trucking, logging, marketing farm produce, welding during the war, salesman of real estate and commodities, working throughout the West and the South. He served in many church positions in the LDS Church and was a great missionary. Gerald loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors. Gerald is survived by one brother, Melvin L. Wakefield of Provo, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Zelda Millett Wakefield. They had been married more than 60 years at her passing. Funeral services were held Monday, March 3 at the Clay Springs Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
