The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 04/22/2003 Nora Bea Newman, 78, died at home in Holbrook Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Nora was born in San Saba, Texas. Her youth was spent there and and in other communities near there and in Dexter, New Mexico near Roswell. She came to Arizona in 1945 and on April 21, 1946 she married Zeke Newman and has lived in Holbrook ever since. During WWII she worked in an aircraft production plant in Dallas, Texas. After coming to Arizona she worked for her brother-in-law and sister-in-law at the Green Lantern Café in Holbrook. She later worked for Babbitt Bros. as a bookkeeper. Nora enjoyed gardening and sewing. She enjoyed music and had a collection of "78s" that she especially enjoyed. Nora loved children and over the years she and Zeke cared for some 75 foster children. Nora is survived by her husband, Zeke Newman of Holbrook; two sons, W.W. Newman of Holbrook and Douglas L. Newman of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Nevert Scorse of Holbrook, Ona Collum of Burnet, Texas, Alvis Davis of Burnet, Texas, and Dona Mullins of San Saba, Texas; and four grandchildren. Graveside services were held Monday, April 21 at the Holbrook Cemetery.
