The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 11/12/2004 Roscoe Lee Hays, Jr., 88, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2004 at his home in Holbrook. He was born Nov. 6, 1916 on a farm just outside of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. At an early age Roscoe learned to be an automotive mechanic as he worked along side his father. He served as a mechanic in the US Army Air Corps in World War II and Korea. Roscoe's last assignment was at Tinker Air Field in Oklahoma City. It was there that he met Grace Irene Kusler and they were married Valentines Day in 1946. They moved to Holbrook in 1956, Roscoe went to work for Whiting Brothers as a mechanic for many years. In 1964 he went to work for Western States Telephone Company as a warehouse man. Roscoe retired in 1981. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He loved to spend time with his family, especially going on outings in the outdoors. He was a handyman and could fix just about anything. Roscoe always kept himself active. He took a photography class at NPC and taught aerobics at the senior center. Roscoe is survived by his two daughters, Fern Larson of Holbrook, Roberta Lancaster of Clinton, Arkansas; brother, Robert Hays of Del City, Oklahoma; sisters, Carol Boyd of Eufala, Oklahoma, Carrie Rollin of Lake Havasu City, Ann Maples of Highlandville, Missouri; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace and daughter Edith Bannister. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 at the First Assembly of God Church in Holbrook. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Owens Mortuary in Holbrook. Interment will be in the Holbrook Cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
