The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 02/07/2006 Jean Smithson, 78, died Jan. 30, 2006 at her home in Holbrook. She was born in Grand Forks, N.D. and grew up in a small town on the border of Minnesota and North Dakota. Her family moved to Washington where she graduated from high school. She then went back to North Dakota to attend nursing school. After receiving her nursing degree she returned to Washington and worked as a R.N. She met Jack Smithson while she was working at the hospital and he was stationed at Fort Lewis. They were married Dec. 31, 1952. They moved to Paso Robles, Calif. in 1953 where they lived until 1967. In 1976 they moved to Germany where Jack worked at the Commissary on the Army Base in Brimmerhofen. They returned to the states, Pleasant Hills, Calif. in 1982. Jack preceded her in death in 1993 and she moved to Holbrook in 2002. Jean is survived by three sons, Timothy J. (Terri) of Paso Robles, Calif., Joel B. (Stephanie) of Wahiawa, HI and James H. of San Francisco, Calif.; one daughter, Judith K. Smithson of San Francisco; two sisters, June (John) Shearer of Underwood, MN and Margie (Roger) Krongard of Olympia, WA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Holbrook Stake Center. There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday Feb. 3. Burial will follow in the Holbrook Cemetery.
