Evelyn (DeSpain) Walker

Evelyn Walker, age 85, died May 29, 2006 at her home in Holbrook.

She was born Jan. 14, 1921 to Lynn and Cora DeSpain. She attended Holbrook schools and had a perfect attendance for 10 1/2 years.

Evelyn married Raymond C. Walker Dec. 27, 1937 and they had two daughters, Nancy and Evelyn Carole. Evelyn worked for City Drug and when it closed she went to work for Guttery Drug. She moved to Phoenix in 1956 to be closer to Raymond who followed road work. Raymond and Evelyn lived all over Arizona and there was never a place that she lived that she could not find good about the town and people of the town. Their grandsons always enjoyed the chance to travel or fish or camp with them.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Nancy Turley of Holbrook and Evelyn Carole (Ned) Ussher of Phoenix; three grandsons, Raymond (Dawn) Turley of Perkins Valley, Jack (Karen) Turley of West Valley, Utah and Brad (Pam) Turley of Holbrook; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, George (Teen) DeSpain; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her son-in-law, Louis Gene Turley; two brothers, Lynn and Ray; her parents, Lynn and Cora and a grandson, Tom Turley.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Holbrook Stake Center with burial to follow in the Holbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to RTA Hospice and Palliative Care, 1789 W. Commerce Dr., Lakeside, AZ 85939 in Evelyn's name.
