The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, August 25, 2006 Karen Marion Sunderland, age 60, died August 20, 2006. in Flagstaff, Ariz. Karen was born on July 16, 1946, in Langdon, N.D. Karen and Chuck Sunderland were married in North Dakota in 1966 and shared 40 years together. They lived two years in Edmore, N.D., and moved to Bowman where Karen worked as a secretary for several years. In the summers Karen and Chuck lived in Medora, N.D., and then later lived full time in Bowman, N.D., where they opened a small Sears catalog store which they ran for 14 years. This is where they raised their son Jamie and developed many lasting friendships. Karen and Chuck moved to Arizona in 1988, where they discovered the Prescott area, enjoyed new friends, and deepened their love of golf and traveling. In addition to the friends and hobbies Karen enjoyed in Arizona, she also worked as a Realtor in partnership with her husband, Chuck, for 15 years. Of her favorite things, she enjoyed being a Grandmother most of all. Karen is survived by husband Chuck; son and daughter-in-law Jamie and Belinda Sunderland of Alaska; granddaughter Maren Sunderland of Alaska; mother Marion Domres of North Dakota; sisters, Ardelle Johnson of South Dakota, Connie Kitchin of North Dakota, Linda Korb of Utah; and brother Terry Domres of North Dakota. Karen was preceded in death by her father Albert Domres. Services in honor of Karen will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at the Elks Lodge in Prescott Valley with Pastor Galen Strand officiating. The family suggests contributions in Karen's memory be made to The School of Promise, 204 7th Avenue NW, Bowman, N.D. 58623. Arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home.
