The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, August 03, 2009 P. Drayton Benner, age 89, of Prescott, Ariz., went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2009. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 18, 1920, to Percival D. and Mary V. Benner. He grew up in Pennsylvania and New York. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, serving on Tinian at the end of the war. He then returned to New York and married Dorothy M. Waaser. In 1955 they moved to Phoenix, then Scottsdale, Ariz., where he worked for AirResearch, continuing his interest in airplanes. They moved to Prescott when he retired in 1986. Their daughter, Patricia Margaret Benner, passed away in 1996, and Dorothy in 1998. He is survived by son D. Chris Benner and wife Beverly of Virginia; and son David G. Benner and wife Bridgett of Prescott; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the Willow Hills First Southern Baptist Church, 1071 Mogollon Road. A committal service will follow at the Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion, Post #6 Honor Guard. The family suggests that a memorial be made to the Willow Hills First Southern Baptist Church in his memory. The Hampton Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
