Robert E. Harman, 89, of Skull Valley, Ariz., died July 28, 2009, at his home. Robert was born on June 29, 1920, and was raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

His early interest in geology led to his post-war hobby of rock hunting. With the outbreak of war in 1940, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew transports in Europe. After the war he married Leotta Armstrong. They settled in Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta and began raising a family. Robert went on to earn his Ph.D. in chemistry at U.C. Berkeley, moved to New Jersey and began a 40-year career as a pharmaceutical chemist with Merck and Company.

After the death of Leotta in 1994, Robert moved to Prescott, Ariz., where he lived out his remaining years.

He is survived by his son, Jim; daughter Barbara; their spouses; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial gifts be donated to YRMC Hospice.

Heritage Memory Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements. Log onto www.heritagemortuary.com to sign Robert's guestbook.
