H. James Lambert, Jr., M.D. passed away at his home in Wickenburg, Ariz., on Dec. 27. He was born Nov. 18, 1920 at Fort Riley, Kan., to Margaret (“Daisy”) Avera Lambert and Herman J. Lambert, Sr.

His father was an army dental officer, so the family moved around quite a bit. There was time in the D.C. area, the Philipines, and San Antonio, Texas, where Jim graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.

He graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1941 and the University of Maryland Medical School in 1944. He served his country on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

He completed his ob/gyn residency at Woman's Hospital (now Presbyterian) in New York City. He met and married Jean Morrison Firestone there in 1953 and was then recalled into service during the Korean War and stationed at the submarine base at New London, Conn.

He then practiced in Honolulu, Hawaii, as a partner at Straub Clinic. From there he moved to San Diego, Calif., and was associated with Reese Stealy Clinic. While there, Jean passed away in 1969, and in 1972 he married Gloria Mierlot Robertson. In 1976 he went to Appalachia and practiced in Hazard, Ky., for 11 years.

He delivered nearly 11,000 babies during his career and finally went back to teaching, which was very important to him.

He was the Director of the Woman's Clinic at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center for 11 years, retiring at the age of nearly 78. He spent his retirement years in Wickenburg, Ariz., and was 86 years old at the time of his death.

He was much loved, honored and respected.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Lambert; children Louise (Richard) Freer, James (Jill) Lambert, Leslie Lambert, and Robert (Demetra) Lambert; step-children Douglas and Andrew Firestone, Lisa (Mark) Smith, Mike (Janice) Robertson, and Tim (Jody) Robertson; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for a later date.

Contributions may be made in his name to the charity of choice, Hospice of the Valley, or Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Ky.
