Fred P. Vrooman, age 76, passed away January 9 at his home in Wickenburg. Memorial services were held on Saturday (Jan. 13) at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sam Weinschenk officiating.

Mr. Vrooman was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Waterloo. He attended schools there and graduated from Waterloo High School. He married Elizabeth Beyea July 24, 1948 in Junius, N.Y., and they made their home in Auburn.

Fred worked for the Ford Motor Co. until 1956 when they moved to Union Springs, N.Y. There he began working in Seneca Falls for Guaranteed Parts Co. as an advertising manager, retiring in 1992. He was awarded recognition for 35 years of service with Standard Motor Products, Inc. and was a member of the Automotive Advertisers Council.

Fred was very active in the community in Union Springs. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Union Springs and had served as an elder in the church. He had served as a Boy Scout leader for many years and was a former member of the Lions Club as well as a member of the F. & A.M. Warren Lodge No. 147 in Union Springs, N.Y.

He served as past District Deputy Grand Master from 1981-1982 Cayuga-Tompkins Grand Lodge F.&A.M. in New York.

He was also past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Cayuga Chapter 339 in Union Springs, N.Y.

Fred was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, hiking, golfing and was an all-around outdoorsman. He was also a pilot and had flown many cross-country trips.

Fred and his wife Elizabeth came to Arizona in 1995, settling in Wickenburg. Fred worked as a driver and guide for Rancho de los Caballeros for the last 10 years. He enjoyed his work and the opportunity to meet people. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church here in Wickenburg.

Fred is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Vrooman of Wickenburg; daughter and son-in-law Peg and Rick Hutchins of Wilmore, Ky.; sons and daughters-in-law Dick and Bonnie Vrooman of Proctor, Mont., Mark and Margaret Vrooman of Polson, Mont., Jim and Deb Vrooman of Forestport, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Laura Vrooman of Corpus Cristi, Texas.; 11 grandchildren Amanda (Cory) Britt of Orange Park, Fla., Jennifer Marshall of Bothel, Wash., Ben Vrooman of Santa Cruz, Calif., Sarah Vrooman of Flemington, N.J., Jessica Vrooman of Auburn, N.Y., Amy Vrooman of Forestport, N.Y., Kimberlee Vrooman of Palmyra, N.Y., Seth Vrooman and Garrison Vrooman both of Kalispell, Mont., Phalen Vrooman of Proctor, Mont., and Matt Hutchins of Romulus, N.Y.

Family suggest memorial contributions in memory of Fred be made to the Masonic Brotherhood Fund, Warren Lodge No. 147 P.O. Box 11 Union Springs, NY 13160, Attn: Brotherhood Chairman Paul Schenck
