The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 17, 2007, p. A11 John (Jack) Armstrong, born Dec. 16, 1917 in Guerneville, Calif., passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 21, 2006 in Knoxville, Tenn. He was 89 years of age. He was preceded in death by his spouse Joyce, his parents John and Eva Armstrong, and his step-son Gary. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Searby and family, Gary's widow Carol and family, and his caregivers and friends Dennis and Joyce Nagel, as well as his honorary granddaughter Wendy Nagel. He is also survived by his many friends in Congress, Ariz., and elsewhere, especially his church in Yarnell. Jack enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1940 and was on the USS Enterprise at Pearl Harbor. He also served on the USS Hornet when she was bombed and sunk in October 1942. He served in many ports and duty stations in his 20 years in the Navy. Jack spent many years doing volunteer work with the Sr. Gleaners, Roseville Rock Club, and Wickenburg/Congress Kiwanis Club until his health stopped him. Per Jack's wishes, his body was donated to science Care Anatomical. There will be no services held, so we just say “anchors aweigh.” |
