The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 17, 2007, p. A11 Services are pending for Ed Sheppard who died at his home in Circle City, Ariz., on Wednesday, Jan. 10 after a long series of illnesses. Mr. Sheppard was born Oct. 22, 1939 in Morgan County, Ind. He was married to the former Rita Cooper who survives, as does his son Billy Luke Sheppard. Ed was the former owner of the famous Paragon Speedway and was a pioneer in the beginning of outlaw sprint car racing. He was a lifetime member of the racing Hall of Fame as well as a great pilot with tens of thousands of hours, numerous ratings, and a member of AOPA. Ed was a licensed realtor in the state of Arizona. In the 1980s he owned a chain of transmission shops and obtained a degree from Lovonis University in transmission rebuilding and mechanical engineering. He was an avid hunter and sportsman and loved riding his ATVs. He was also a member of the NRA. In the 1980s and 90s he enjoyed traveling the country in his motor home and tinkering with his garage-full of antique automobiles. Just prior to his death, Ed obtained a small fleet of trucks, but never got the chance to enjoy them. Most of all he loved his family and beloved pets who will miss him dearly. |
