Vera “Kitty” Cherry, age 79, passed away on April 6 in Sun City West, Ariz. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sam Weinschenk officiating.

Kitty was born and raised in Columbia, S.C. She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school. She later went on to work in civil service as a court reporter for the Office of the Judge Advocate General.

She met and married B.H. Cherry Nov. 22, 1947 in Columbia, S.C. They made their home in Atlanta, Ga., where B.H. worked as a home builder and she worked as a legal secretary for a brief time then dedicated her time as a mother and homemaker.

She was active raising children, involved in the local PTA. and many other community activities. After the children were older she began interior decorating and eventually worked in real estate as an agent and broker. She was also an avid golfer and served as president of the Georgia Women's Golf Association and was a member of the Atlanta Women's Golf Association as well as Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Ga.
Kitty was an avid bridge player both in Atlanta as well as here in Wickenburg. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church for many years and served as president of the Lady's Aid Group within the Church.

She and B.H. moved to Wickenburg in December of 1996. B.H. became a licensed contractor and real estate broker, began building homes and built several homes here in Wickenburg. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of Las Señoras and played bridge often.
She is survived by her husband B.H. Cherry of Wickenburg; son Phil Cherry of Norcross, Ga.; daughter Marian Vermillion of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandson Kevin Vermillion of Jefferson, Ga.; great-grandchildren Emily May Vermillion and Camron Russell Vermillion.

Concluding services will take place on April 15 at 2 p.m. at Crowell Bros. Funeral Home in Norcross, Ga., with interment to follow in Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home
