A14 Esther Rivers A memorial mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday (May 3) at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for Esther Rivers, 89, who passed away April 29 in Sun City. Esther was born Aug. 19, 1917 in Hollywood Township, Minn., to Martin Sherman and Mary Flasch Sherman. She was raised there and attended school there. She married Edmund Rivers on Feb. 12, 1935, and they made their home in Silver Lake, Minn., where they operated a feed store. In 1950, they moved to Minneapolis. Esther began working for American Linen, where she worked for years until retiring in 1980. After retiring, they made their home in Waverly, Minn., where they had a home on the lake and where Esther became an avid fisherman. She loved to play poker and work crossword puzzles and had crocheted for years, making afghans and doilies. She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund on Feb. 16, 1993. Esther is survived by daughter and son-in-law Mary and Neal Judkins of Wickenburg; sons Lee Rivers of Isle, Minn., and Ken Rivers of Mount Rose, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law Colette and Phil Gradoz of El Mirage, Ariz.; sister Fay Carlson of Waconia, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Concluding services and interment will follow at a later date in Waverly, Minn. Arrangements were made under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
