Dorothy Devault, age 87, passed away June 20 in Wickenburg. She was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Dec. 8, 1919.

As a young woman she and her sister were awarded scholarships to Heidelberg University in Germany; unfortunately they were for the fall semester of 1939 and the war intervened. She married Deane Jennings, a traveling tunnel worker, in 1940 and had a son, Dennis in 1941. She followed Deane to the Town of Valdez, Alaska, in 1945. In 1949 she married Jack Devault and worked alongside him starting and developing seven successful business enterprises until their retirement to Arizona in 1969.

Dorothy became active in the Wickenburg art community and the Arizona Small Miners Association. She had a remarkable talent for the arts in many different media and true talent for teaching others how to enjoy art.

Following Jack’s passing, she worked closely with Loren Burr, a Wickenburg stained glass artist and was his close companion until his passing.

She is survived by her son Dennis Jennings and his wife Kiki of Fairbanks, Alaska.

According to her wishes there are no services planned. There will be a celebration of her life, which will be scheduled for the winter months. In lieu of flowers or donations, friends are asked to stop and enjoy something beautiful.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
