Owen Douglas Freeman

Owen Douglas Freeman lost a valiant five-year battle with esophagal cancer Sept. 10, 2006.

He was surrounded by his loving family as he passed into the arms of his waiting ancestors and his Heavenly Father. His body and will were strong and he resisted leaving his children and beautiful wife, Dorloha. He was 68.

Doug was born Feb. 4, 1938 in Mesa to Marvene Flake and Owen Freeman. He felt privileged to be born into the family he was and shared many stories of his special ancestors with his children. Doug married his sweetheart, Aloma Dorloha Jensen July 19, 1959, this union was later solemized in the Oakland, California LDS Temple. They enjoyed many years of working together and traveling to Israel, Jamaica, and many parts of the United States, looking for and finding many items and places of historical significance. He found many family gravestones previously unknown. They raised nine beautiful children together, five daughters and four sons.

Douglas was a graduate of Mesa High School, class of 1956. He was a true cowboy. He loved horses and had a unique ability to tame the toughest bronc. Shoeing, training, riding, he enjoyed it all and shared that love with his children and other youth. He also loved the Native American culture. He passed that respect on to his family. Besides family, the Gospel of Jesus Christ was his first love. The missionary program held a place near and dear to his heart. He sent five of his children on missions all over the world, and helped scores of other missionaries. He served faithfully in the church, Bishopric, Young Mens, High Council, Ward Missionary Leader.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorloha, daughters, (Wendy) Charlie, (Delyn) Brian, (Jonna) Shawn, (Marion) Jeff, (Amber) Jaxon;
sons, (Seth) Emily, (Clint) Dana, (Jacob) Janet, (Chris) Val. He also left 20 grandchildren who loved their Grandpa Freeman very much.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. with the viewing at 5 p.m. at the Pearce- Sunsites Arizona LDS Chapel off Highway 191. Burial will be held in Snowflake, Arizona at the Snowflake Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. "Gather up the doggies Dad... and we will meet you at the ranch."

Services were handled by Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.
