Gregory Vassiliou

Gregory Vassiliou passed away on March 9th, 2005 at the age of 71. Gregory was born in Athens, Greece on March 26, 1933.

He came to America in the 1950's, with a Guitar and a song in his heart. Gregory became a recording star who entertained people all over the globe. Through his beautiful music, Gregory brought home Greece to countless immigrants who saw him perform. Heaven has a new singer who now sings for the angels. He was also one of Phoenix's most enduring restaurateurs.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Katherine; 4 children, Andreas, Mariana Welty, George with wife, Tasoula and Connie Panagiotakopoulos and husband, Christo; 8 grandchildren, Athanassios, Alexander, Nikolas, Anna, Gregory, Dimitri, Orion and Anastasia. Also survived by his brother, Anthony and sisters, Athena and Maria.

Visitation was on Friday with a Trisagon at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St. Funeral service was on Saturday, March 12th at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1973 E. Maryland Ave. Interment followed at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Published in The Arizona Republic on 3/11/2005.
