Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, August 12 at 10 a.m. in the Safford Cemetery with viewing at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Jay A. Haralson, 88 of Safford passed away August 10, 2009.

He was born May 1, 1921 to Jack A. and Emma Zufelt Haralson in Safford. Jay was one of three children, brother Heath and sister Ellen. He was raised and educated in the Safford graduating from Safford High School in 1939. In 1940 he married Betty McDonald and they had two children, Rodney and Sherri. Jay later joined the Navy and worked as a welder in the Ship Yards of California. After serving he returned to Safford in 1944 and started Gateway Furniture. He married Grace Munden in 1960 and they spent many happy years together. They enjoyed spending the winter months in San Carlos, Mexico deep sea fishing and the summers in Alpine. Jay and Grace closed the furniture store in 1997. Jay had a love of West Highland Terriers, golfing and spending time with his family. He is survived by 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and loving wife Grace.
