The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 06/03/2005 Sgt. Charles T. Wilkerson, 30, died May 22, 2005 in Iraq. Charles was born in El Paso, Texas. He lived most of his life in Columbus, Georgia. There he went through elementary and high school. He loved sports and especially enjoyed playing soccer. After high school he served a mission to Uruguay for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1998. He served in a number of bases throughout the U.S. In 2004 he transferred to the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He was sent with his unit to Iraq in March 2005, and died May 22 while serving there. Charles was family oriented and loved serving in his church and being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Whitney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Colin and Acelin; three daughters, Miriam, Amelia and Sophie; his parents, Tomas Wilkerson of Phoenix City, Alabama and Tomasa Goodwin of Columbus, Georgia; three brothers, Jose, Roberto "Bobby", and Gene Wilkerson; and two sisters, Kathy Hernandez and Sandra Wilkerson. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 3 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low.
