Merlin LaVon Simmons

Merlin LaVon Simmons, 73, of Gilbert, AZ. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather was called home by his heavenly father on Wednesday May 14, 2003.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Colleen Simmons, their children Dwayne and his wife Marilyn, Michael and his wife Sandra, Collette Stein and Teresa Waldeck. LaVon was patriarch to 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.

Born in Heber City, UT, April 25, 1930 to Merlin D. and Grace Ellen as the oldest of 4 brothers Oren, Jack and Clair.

His skills as a carpenter lead him to his site superintendent position with Farnsworth Construction where he retired in 1989. His accomplishments were many, but none as important as the unconditional love and service he gave willingly to his family and friends.

Visitation: May 18, 2003, at Bunker Family Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa and again on May 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1155 E. Ray Rd, Gilbert. Service immediately followed the visitation at the church. Interment: City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street, Mesa. Published in the Arizona Republic on 5/17/2003.
