Dr. William P. Bacon, Professor Emeritus of the University of the Pacific, passed away Dec. 9 at the age of 83, from a long term illness in Scottsdale, AZ where he had lived for the last 18 months. Dr. Bacon had lived in the Phoenix area on and off since being stationed at Williams Airfield in WW-II. He was born July 1, 1917 in Emporia, Kansas. He married Katherine Rae Fram, of Glendale, AZ, at Patterson Airfield in Ohio in 1943 before shipping out to Italy. After WW-II, he taught at Tolleson High School near Phoenix until he was recalled into service during the Korean conflict. He continued with the Air Force in Arizona, Alabama, Germany, and Kansas. He retired from the service in 1967 and became a Professor of Education at UOP until his retirement in 1982. He received five undergraduate degrees, a masters, and a Doctorate in Education from UC Berkeley. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Fram, in 1980 and was remarried in 1981 to Velma Love Croaff of Phoenix. He is survived by his wife, Velma Love Croaff Bacon, three daughters, Alice Bacon of Yardley, PA, Marilyn Storey of Woodland Park, CO, and Katherine Bacon Dunmire of Santa Clara, CA., and four grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren, and eight step grandchildren. Donations can be made to the William P. Bacon Endowment Fund at the University of the Pacific, 3601 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95211. A memorial service was held at Morris Chapel, UOP, in Stockton on Jan. 8, 2001. Services Sat.
