Harry Joseph Deacon

Posted 2009-08-17 by Pat Wilson
Harry Joseph Deacon, 81 years young, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 6, 2002. Harry was born at home on October 13, 1920 in Jersey City, N.J. to Harry and Mary (Kelly) Deacon.

He is now reunited with his Mother and Father, his brother, Artie, and his sister, Marion. Harry was a loving husband to Evelyn (Krenke) whom he married in 1948. Their marriage was the envy of all who knew them. Lynn was the most devoted wife and friend who helped him through his last years without complaint.

Their love resulted in three children, Bob (Saralee), Rick (Corol), and Nancy, his 'Rabbit'. Harry's love and guidance helped the children grow into adulthood with strong values and 'a little love in their hearts'.

He moved his family to Arizona in 1962 where he worked as a store manager for Basha's. He was a tireless worker and an excellent people person. He loved his job and everyone loved him. He was sad that illness forced him to retire in 1982. He remained active in Basha's Retirement Association. During his life he enjoyed sports, especially golf. After retirement, he worked at a golf course in Idaho with his son. He loved meeting and being with people.

Harry was active in church when his family was young. He was born and raised Catholic, then became Moravian while living in Union, N.J. He has been a member of Scottsdale United Methodist since 1965. Harry was a Boy Scout leader and helped instill in his children a love of nature. During WWII, he was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps and remained a member of the American Legion. Harry's attitude toward life and his love of family and friends will always be remembered.

Heaven now has another angel to help those remaining here. Harry will be greatly missed by his family, including his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Todd, Sean, Richard, Nicole and Jennifer.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014, or because of his love of the game, the Harry Deacon Junior Golf Fund, Montpelier Golf Course, 210 Boise St., Montpelier, ID 83254. Visitation was Friday evening, March 8th at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 9th at Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 4140 N Miller Rd at 2 PM.
