The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, August 15, 2009 Dr. Betty L. Beck, 102, was born Jan. 16, 1907, at her grandparents' home in Newark, Ohio. She moved to Arizona in September 1949 as one of the founding faculty members of Grand Canyon College (University). Dr. Beck died on Aug. 8, 2009, in Prescott Valley. Dr. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roland L. Beck, in 1981, and their son, John, in 2003. She is survived by daughter Betty; son-in-law Robert Palmer; daughter-in-law Doris Beck; grandchildren Elizabeth (Al), Thomas (Cheryl), Patricia, Bill (Marlene), Lind (Alton) and Vera; great-grandchildren Christopher (Jennifer), Melissa, Cassandra, Andrea, Julie, Emilie, Kellie, Benjamin, Aaron, Bethany, Nathaniel and Calvin; great-great-grandchildren John and Colleen; niece Elizabeth Weathers-Fink (Doug); and nephews William Weathers (Linda) and Peter Shrock. Dr. Beck (instructor, professor, author) taught at Grand Canyon University over 30 years. She has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for 50 years. She was also active in North Phoenix Baptist Church as a Bible study teacher and choir member from 1951 to 1993. In 1993 she moved to Prescott Valley to live near her children. A memorial service and interment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, in the Memory Chapel at Phoenix's Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W. Van Buren. Arrangements are by Sunrise Funeral Home, Prescott Valley, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Beck requests memorial gifts to Robert Road Baptist Church building fund, P.O.
