Born Sept. 29, 1918, Albert Padberg passed away on Aug. 7, 2009. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. So many people loved him and he will be missed dearly.

Born in Detroit, Mich., he spent most of his youth in Freeport, Ill., until graduating from Freeport High School in 1937. He was a U.S. Army veteran and spent much of his tour in Germany. He was a linotypist by trade and an accomplished jazz pianist. Everyone's fondest memories were going to grandpa's house and listening to him entertain us at the piano for hours. While spending most of his retirement volunteering for several organizations including ARC of Arizona and the Arizona Training Center Parent Association, he always found time to play cribbage at the Pile Center in Tempe.

Albert was preceded in his passing by his wife of 60-plus years, Maxine Padberg, in 2003 and his son Brian Padberg in 2005. His daughters Patricia Susan Padberg of Coolidge, Ariz., Victoria Jean Wendt of Dewey, Ariz., as well as four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive him.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Arc of Arizona.
