Hugh Jackson Young

Hugh Jackson "Jack" Young, 77, a long-time Kearny and Dudleyville resident until his retirement, passed away Aug, 29, 2006 at his home in Rosharon, Texas.

He was born March 21, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana, the son of Fred and Mathylde (Rasbury) Young. He was a graduate of the Ouachita Parish School System, Jefferson Military College in Nachez, Mississippi and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Mr. Young was an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, which included sea duty during the Korean War.

As an industrial chemist, he enjoyed a long and productive career which included a position with Cities Service Oil Company at their pioneering Athabasca tar-sand project in Canada, Coors Ceramics in Colorado, a research project extracting oil from oil shale at Rifle, Colorado and as Chief Chemist for Kennecott's Ray Mines Division until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Noland) Young of Rosharon, Texas; daughter, Janelle Kishbaugh of Safford; sons, Robert Young of Mesa and Jack E. Young of Tucson; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four step-children, Cindy Griffith of New Orleans, Louisiana, Susan Hahn of South Houston, Texas, Scott Wilson of League City, Texas, and Louis Bernhardt of Monroe, Louisiana. Hugh is also survived by his best friend, R.T. Montcalm of Mansfield, La.

A memorial service was held Sept. 2 in Friendswood, Texas. He will rest at the National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
