Samson H. “Sam” French, age 49, passed away July 30 at the family ranch in Wickenburg. Sam was born in McNary, Ariz., Dec.7, 1957 to Howard Russell French and Phyllis Schmidt French.

He was raised in Phoenix and attended schools there. Sam moved to Wickenburg in 1986 and helped his father build the ranch at Owl Springs and has lived there since that time. He worked in construction for most of his life, in roadwork, home building, drilling wells, and lately he had worked in mining.

Sam was well known for a job that he enjoyed, because of his size and personality. He worked for years as a bouncer/peace keeper at the Rancher Bar here in Wickenburg. He had participated in the Gold Rush Days Parade several years driving a “Deuce ” Military Truck.

Sam was a member of the Sons of the American Legion also. He loved to hunt, and go camping and enjoyed life on the ranch.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Wickenburg; daughters Leslie French of Peoria and Kellie French of Circle City; son Ethan French of Dewey-Humbolt; sisters Sally Lauletta of Glendale and Susan French of Foster City, Calif.; grandchildren Austin, Wyatt, Makenzie Nelson, Savannah Jakoby, Emily and Melissa Peterson.

Leslie, Kellie and Ethan French request the presence of all those who would like to raise their glasses one last time in honor of their father, Sam French. We request such presence at The Rancher Bar on Sunday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. as we ourselves pay our own respects and send off the only way intended for such a man. Thank you all for your kind words and support.

“And for God’s sakes, be careful.”

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
