Eugene Willard (Gene) Jennings

Eugene “ Gene” Willard Jennings, age 83, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Wickenburg, Ariz. Gene was born Jan. 10, 1924 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to James O. Jennings and Audrey Roush.

Gene spent his childhood in St. Anthony, Parker, and Idaho Falls, Idaho. After losing his mother at the age of 12, Gene lived with his aunt and uncle, Dick and Cleotha Lundquist. At the age of 16 Gene served in the U. S. Army from 1940 to 1941, and with the Navy Sea Bees from 1943 to 1945.

Gene married Ruth Nixon in 1946. They were married until Ruth’s death in 1971. He then married Dorless Osborn July 15, 1971. She passed away Jan. 3, 1977.

Gene was a proud 55-year member of the Operating Engineers Local 370, the Iona Posse, the VFW, the Elks, and the Eagles. Gene loved riding horses, square dancing, reading Louie L’Amour western books, camping, fishing, rodeos, and PBR bull riding. He was a dog’s best friend. Horses were the love of his life.

Gene was a kind, loving, hardworking man with a vibrant smile. He never met a stranger. Life is what you make it and learn from others. Gene lived life to its fullest and his legend will continue on through his children and grandchildren, and all those who were so fortunate to be touched by Gene’s soul.

Gene is survived by daughter DeAnn (Jennings) Brannon, sons Dennis E. (Julie) Jennings of Prescott, Ariz., Gregory L. (Vicky) Jennings of Idaho Falls, Idaho, stepdaughters Karen (Osborn) Flynn of Orange Beach, Ala., and Rosie (Osborn) Kullman of Snohomish, Wash., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his father James O. Jennings, mother Audrey Roush Jennings, brothers Roy Jennings and Frank Jennings, wives Ruth (Nixon) Jennings and Dorless (Osborn) Jennings, stepdaughters Gwen (Osborn) Kelley and Marilyn Osborn, sons-in-law Rich Brannon and Rawby Flynn, and stepsister Reva Fisher.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept.17, 2007 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the Coltrin Funeral Home with burial in Ammon, Idaho. Local arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
