| The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Sept. 19, 2007, p. A10 Ethelene Mathis-Schmid, age 67, passed away in Sun City West Sept. 15. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home with Judge John Henry conducting. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix on Wednesday. Ethelene was born in Salina, Tenn., on May 4, 1940. She came to Arizona as a child and was raised primarily in Tucson. She attended schools there and became a Registered Nurse working at Tucson Medical Center for years. She married H.L. Mathis June 18, 1964, and they made their home in Aguila. H.L. died in November of 1991. She later married Jake Schmid and they remained in Aguila. Ethelene worked for a brief time at the Meadows but was primarily a homemaker. She was well known in the community. Known as “Mom” to many and many who grew up there considered her home their home. Ethelene loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing Bunco with the ladies at the Eagles Roost Air Park. She is survived by her husband Jake Schmid of Aguila, daughter Terri Mathis of Aguila, sisters Esther Langford and Betty Jo Tracy of Tennessee, as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
