Myra D. (Twitty) Baker

An Arizona native, Myra D. (Twitty) Baker passed away December 12, 2000 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Prescott, Arizona Territory, September 16, 1905, and was reared on the Arizona frontier in the towns of Williams and Anita near the Grand Canyon.

Her elementary and high school education was centered in Glendale. She was a member of the first graduating class of eleven to receive their R.N. degree, May 1926, from Arizona Deaconess Hospital, now known as Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Az. Mrs. Baker was a Private Duty R.N. for fifty years in the Phoenix area. In addition, she was an Instructor in Home Nursing.

She is survived by her children: Mrs. Richard (Betty Jo) Barney, Rio Rico, AZ, N. Clifford Baker, Arroyo Grande, CA, and Charles T. Baker, Danvers, MA, her grandchildren, Charles J. Barney, Pryor, Ok, Mrs. Charles (Myra) Meyers, Hobbs, NM, Sue A. Barney, Albuquerque, NM, Noley C. Baker, Mountain City, TN, Mrs. Samuel (Peggy) Parrish, Radford, VA and Mrs. Kevin (Julia) Colton, Nipomo, CA and 16 Great Grandchildren.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents Edgar M. and Emily Marie Twitty, her husband N. Clifford Baker Sr., an infant son, Gerald M. Baker, and a grandson, Matthew H. Baker, U.S. Coastguard.

She was active in the Arizona Historical Society, P.E.O. Chapter ''C'', Glendale First United Methodist Church, and is a lifetime member of the Women Society of Christian Service. She was dedicated to her family, church and community.

Memorial services Saturday, December 16, 2000, First United Methodist Church, 7102 N. 58th Dr., Glendale, AZ, Reverend Jim O'Neal officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vista Care Hospice, P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, or First United Methodist Church, Glendale. Arizona Republic December 16, 2000
