Sidney Blair Anderson

Sidney Blair Anderson, 90 was born on August 1, 1914 in Sawpit, Colorado and passed away on August 23, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Sidney lived in Mesa from 1915 until he moved to Wickenburg in 1985. Most recently he resided in Phoenix. Sidney was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He earned a degree in education from Arizona State College and worked in the field of education for 36 years. From 1955-1975 he was principal of Lowell Elementary School in Phoenix.

Sidney's endearing personality and strength of character was an important positive influence upon the lives of thousands of young people. In addition to a rewarding career, Sidney enriched his life with other interests such as mining, ranching, traveling, and gardening. He was devoted to his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Rowena of Phoenix; stepson, Allen Ames of Chandler; brother Theodore Anderson of Mesa; and 8 nieces.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 28, 2004, Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ with visitation one-hour prior to services.

Interment followed at the City of Mesa Cemetery.

Memorial services were also planned for Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Church of the Beatitudes, 555 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix, AZ. Those who wish to contribute memorial donations in Sidney's name may do so to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or to Age Link, 1548 W. Glendale, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
