Beverly (McEntire) O'Leary

Beverly (McEntire) O’Leary passed away at home in Wickenburg on Friday, Nov. 9. She was born on July 4, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., to Kenneth and Beatrice McEntire. She graduated from Westport High School and attended the Kansas City Art Institute, majoring in sculpture.

In 1945, Beverly joined the Red Cross and served for two years in the Philippines during World War II. Following her return to Kansas City, Beverly married Dorman S. “Mike” O’Leary in 1952. His career as a mining geologist brought them to Arizona 53 years ago.

Beverly led a full and rewarding life. She continued her involvement with the Red Cross during the Korean War and Vietnam wars. Beverly spent many years as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, helping area girls develop into young women. She volunteered for many years at the Soroptimist Club in Wickenburg. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg.

Mrs. O’Leary enjoyed being involved in the Wickenburg community. She participated in Wickenburg’s annual Gold Rush celebration and in many group trails rides as a member of Las Damas. She contributed her creative talents to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. She was also a long-time member of Los Caballeros Golf Club.

Beverly is survived by her sister Marilyn Barton and her husband Robert, of Leewood, Kan.; her beloved Aunt Geraldine Fulcher, of Lenexa, Kan.; her sister-in-laws Doris McEntire, of Gladstone, Mo.; Ruth McEntire, of Tulsa, Okla.’ and Kathryn O’Leary Bomholt of Denver, Colo.; as well as many nieces, and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Monday (Nov. 19) at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg with Pastor Sam Weinschenk officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, where a purchase will be made in Beverly’s memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
