Billy R. Stewart, “Cowcop” passed away at the age of 78 on Nov. 27 in Astoria, Ore. He was born May 15, 1929 in Sasakwa, Okla. to Gertha and Alfred Stewart.

Billy was born in Oklahoma and moved to Arizona as a young child. He was a real Arizona cowboy. He loved horses, riding, roping, music, golfing, friends and his family. He managed feedlots in Glendale, Mesa, and Queen Creek in Arizona and had an exceptional knowledge of cattle.
In 1972 he graduated from Arizona State Law Enforcement Academy and served as lieutenant for the Arizona State Livestock Board as a supervisor, based in Wickenburg. He retired in 1994 and moved to Oregon in 2001.
Billy was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2160 in Wickenburg and the Wickenburg Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Jackie Stewart of Astoria, Ore., daughter and son-in-law Laura and Danny Camacho of Litchfield Park, Ariz., step-son and daughter-in-law Michael and Phyllis Wolfe of Apache Junction, Ariz., daughter and son-in-law Patty Jo and J.T. Tapia of Phoenix, step-daughter and son-in-law Sherri and Clark Williams of Astoria, Ore., son and daughter-in-law Billy R. and Tammy Stewart of Panorama City, Fla., step-daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Leigh Johnson of Great Falls, Mont., son Michael D. Stewart of Page, Ariz., son Shannon Stewart of Astoria, Ore., sister Esther Palmer of Florence, Ariz., brother and sister-in-law Bivan and Mary Lou Stewart of Phoenix, sister-in-law Jo Ellen Stewart of Payson, Ariz., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Yvonne Carroll of Gilbert, Ariz., sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sue and Tom Larson of American Fork, Utah., as well as 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and one grandson.

Graveside services will be in January in Wickenburg; the date and time will be announced.

Billy Stewart

A memorial service for Billy R. Stewart, former Wickenburg resident, will be held on Saturday (Jan 12) 11 a.m. at the local cemetery.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held for family and friends in the recreation ahll at Coffinger Park.

Billy passed away Nov. 27, in Astoria, Ore.
