Chester (Chet) W. Miller, 76, of Glendale, passed away December 9, 2000. He was born in Sullivan County, Indiana on September 10, 1924. Chet served his country well during WWII as a Marine Combat Corpsman with assignments in Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima during heavy fighting. He performed heroically and received the Purple Heart with a Gold Star and a Navy Letter of Commendation. Chet was a life member of the 4th Marine Division Association, WWII. He was the founding secretary of the Grand Canyon Chapter 33 and was active in the installation of the 4th Marine Division, WWII Memorial located in the Bolin Memorial Park. He held a B.S. degree from Butler University (1949) and an M.S. degree from Purdue University (1951). Chet was a 48 year resident of Arizona. He retired in 1992 from Arizona Portland Cement where he was Manager of Technical Services. During his working career, he has lectured at Purdue University, been an agent for the FBI, and worked in the meat packing industry. Chet was a loving husband, father and grandfather and Republican. He is survived by his wife Ruth, three sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A memorial service was held on December 20 at Cathedral of the Valley, 16635 N. 51st Ave. Donations can be given in Chet's name to Marine's Toys for Tots. Arizona Republic December 16, 2000 |
