John W. Barr, 59, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, with his hat in his hands, Feb. 4, 2006 at Hospice of the Valley in Chandler. He was born in Sweethome, Oregon and graduated from Marcola High School in Marcola, Oregon in 1965. He then served in the Navy serving as an Admiral Yeoman during the Vietnam War. After the service he moved to Arizona and found his sweetheart, Dixie Kennedy of Snowflake. They were married Feb. 15, 1974. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1976 and their marriage was solemnized June 8, 1991 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He was happy to serve in any capacity in the church and served in the Elders Quorum Presidency for several years and was also a Primary Teacher. He loved children and thoroughly enjoyed working in the Nursery. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that was reflected by his acts of love throughout his life. John found beauty in nature and was fond of the out-of-doors. He collected Native American art and Kachina dolls. He loved his family and was especially concerned for his grandkids' safety and happiness. He was always close with his brothers and sisters and in them found some of his closest friends. John is survived by his wife, Dixie L. Barr of Snowflake; four children, Christi (Kirk) Webb of Lakeside, Jennifer (Kelly) Jarvis of Snowflake, Ryan Barr of Snowflake, and Crystal Hansen of Marcola, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Pat (Woody) Faust of Springfield, Ore.; and two brothers, Jerry (JoAnn) Barr and Mike (Francine) Barr both of Oakridge, Ore. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Paul Barr in 1976, one sister Jeanie Johnson in 2002 and his parents Leland and Ruby Barr. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Snowflake Stake Center with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church and from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake.
