Vernon C. Armagost

Vernon C. Armagost, 75, of Congress, Ariz., passed away on Jan. 10 in a Sun City hospital. He was born on Feb. 10, 1930 in Liberty, Mo.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Clair W. and Goldie M. Armagost and brother Larry Armagost. Vernon is survived by his daughters Verna Gaus of Dallas, Texas, Sonya VanWoerkom and Sandie Armagost both of Las Vegas, Nev., brother Alvin Armagost and sisters Eveleyn Plencer, Lillian Carter, Helen Carter and her husband, E.C. Carter.

After graduating from high school in Burlington Junction, Mo., Vern enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as Chief of Sonar on the U.S.S. Hanson DDR-832. Upon completion of his military service, Vern attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State College with a Bachelors of Science in Education and later obtained a Masters Degree from Colorado State College in Greeley, Colo.

Vernon taught in the Denver public school system for 20 years. He held a real estate license and was a licensed building inspector in Denver, Colo. Vernon spent many summers working as a park ranger for the National Park Service.

Vernon was a member of the Masonic Lodge and while living in Aurora, Colo., he was an active member of the Aurora Lions Club serving as president.

Vernon moved to the Wickenburg area where he worked for many years in mining. He became active in the American Legion Post 57 in Yarnell, Ariz., where he served as a member of the White Team.

Vern enjoyed his many friends in the Wickenburg/Congress area. Karaoke was a favorite pastime as was spending time with his wonderful partner Chris (Alice) Maggs. He enjoyed reading, cooking and his pooch, Anne. He was loved and he will be missed.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post #57 in Yarnell.
