Hazel Maxine (Hard) Vaught

Hazel Maxine Vaught, age 81, passed away March 8 in Sun City West, Ariz. Funeral service were held Monday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Huff of the Faith Baptist Church officiating. Concluding services and interment took place in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

Hazel was born Jan. 26, 1925 in Coalhill, Ark., to Howard Hard and Hattie Mae Reynolds Hard. She was raised there and attended schools there.

She later moved to California in the 1950’s, settling in Buena Park. She began working for Hughes Aircraft, which she did for many years. She often commented on meeting Howard Hughes several times during her working years.

Hazel grew up during the big band era was an avid ballroom dancer. She came to Wickenburg in 2001, and she loved it. She returned to California briefly and later came back to Wickenburg to be near family last year.

She is survived by her daughters Jannie Vaught of Wickenburg and Judy Roche of Portersville, Calif.; Summer Vaught, Dakota Getsinger, John Jakoby, Dallas Jakoby, and Danya Salinas and her husband Samuel; great grandchildren Johathan Snyder, Sierra Salinas, Isaac Salinas, Jessie Jakoby, Anthony Jakoby, and Savanah Jakoby.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hughie Vaught, in 1986.
