Lance Flake, 19, died May 11, 2006 at his home in Snowflake surrounded by his family.
He was born in Mesa Dec. 1, 1986 to J. Scott and Carolyn Canfield Flake. He graduated from Snowflake High School with the class of 2005 and was currently taking online courses at Mesa Community College.
Lance loved sports and could frequently be found sitting courtside or on the sidelines for LOBOS ball teams. Though he was blind, he worked tirelessly to ensure 'fair' officiating in local sports events. He truly loved people, sports and life. Lance was easy to love and has many friends. He had a perfect faith that his physical condition was temporary. He eagerly anticipated the day he would be able to run, jump and play ball again. He always viewed life through an eternal perspective.
Lance is survived by his father and stepmother J. Scott and Sara Flake; his sister, Callie Flake, all of Snowflake; grandparents, Dean and Nerita Flake of Snowflake, Marlene Canfield of Bountiful, Utah and Keith and Susan Larson of Snowflake and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn C. Flake on Jan. 14, 2003; his grandfather, Paul Canfield and an aunt, Cathy Canfield.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Stake Center.
Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled arrangements.
