The White Mountain Independent Show Low, AZ 07/08/2005 Elise Peterson, 50, died peacefully at her home in Snowflake in the presence of her family Sunday, July 3, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Elise was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, and after high school, moved to Provo, Utah where she met her future husband, Fred. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple March 20, 1975. She was the loving mother of seven children. Her love for children marked her life and has been shown in her community involvement and church service. Elise was very successful as a dance teacher for ten years to hundreds of students in Snowflake, Holbrook, Show Low and Pinetop. Of her many church callings, she enjoyed serving as the singing chorister for primary children the most. Elise has always been known for her cheerful sense of humor, her deep loyalty to her family, and for her personal strength and courage. For the past 14 years, she has served as a Special Ed Aide, as an Occupational and Physical Therapist Aide, and as a sixth grade school teacher for Snowflake/Taylor schools. She earned a Bachelors Degree in education in 2000, and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership in 2002. Elise understood and found great joy in the art of teaching and gave constant attention to individual student values and self esteem. She believed that every school day could and should be a positive experience for every student. Elise's greatest influence has been in her home where she has quietly taught gospel values of faith, integrity, and hope. Elise was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Joy Petersen; her parent-in-law, Theo and Imogene Peterson; sister Paula; and daughter Melissa. Survivors include her husband Fred; her children Angela (Mike) Willis, Cameron (Brandi) Peterson, Eugene Peterson, and Michael Peterson, all of Snowflake, Mindi Peterson, of Mesa, Courtney (Jared) Curt of Flagstaff; two brothers and three sisters. Elise is also the proud grandmother of five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9 at the LDS Main Street Church in Snowflake. Viewings will be held Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake and Saturday morning at the Main Street Church one hour before the service.
