The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ December 30, 2008 Ralph Edward Russell, 80, died Dec. 24, 2008, at his home in Snowflake surrounded by his family and loving eternal companion, Eleanor. He was born July 4, 1928, to Ernest and Ethel Russell, in Mesa. Ralph graduated from Mesa High School in 1946, served 18 months in the U.S. Army and a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern States. Ralph married Eleanor Johnson in 1951, and they became the parents of six children, 34 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. He worked at Mesa High School for 31 years, first as a teacher and then assistant principal, retiring in 1986. Ralph was active in the LDS Church, serving as bishop of the Mesa 21st Ward, stake patriarch and temple sealer. He and Eleanor also served a mission to Munich, Germany. Ralph and Eleanor moved to Snowflake in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 57 years; two sons, Keith (Becky) of Mesa and Phillip (Tammy) of Washington; four daughters, Gale (Moe Ashcroft) of Snowflake, Linda (Alan DeWitt) of Snowflake, Julie (Troy Beckert) of Logan Utah and Sharon (Colton Taylor) of Snowflake; and two brothers, Dan Russell of Logan Utah, and Ray Russell of Mesa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, in the Snowflake Stake Center, 175 W. 9th St., at 12 p.m. A viewing will precede the services at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Snowflake Cemetery.
