Raymond D. (Skip) Skipper

Raymond D. Skipper 'Skip' Jr., 61, died May 10, 2006 at his home in Snowflake after battling with cancer. He was born Sept. 28, 1944 in Flint, Michigan.

He moved to Mesa with his family in 1959 and graduated from Mesa High in 1962. He attended Mesa Community College and graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1983. He retired from Mesa fire department in 1991 after 21 years of service. He was then Fire Chief in Chino Valley from 1991 to 2000.

He retired and he and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Snowflake.

They served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tallahassee, Florida. He enjoyed hunting on horseback, fishing, golfing and quad riding.

Skip is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Hoopes Denham Skipper; his children, Kim Skipper of Boston, Craig (Robyn) of Queen Creek and Troy (Kelly), Sterling (Christy), Scott (Brandi) and Blake (Faith) all of Prescott Valley; 20 grandchildren; his mother, Wanda Skipper, and a sister, Mary Redondo both of Mesa.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 15 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Main Street Chapel.

There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 14 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake.
