Lawrence J. "Slab" Woodside, 77, died Jan. 12, 2006 at home in Snowflake. He was born in Bethel, Oklahoma Jan. 15, 1928 to Bert James and Pearl Evelyn Ashford Woodside. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an Army veteran, serving in Japan during the Korean War. Slab worked at the Southwest Forest Industries for 26 years. He married Marna Rae Peterson Nov. 3, 1950 in Snowflake. They were blessed with four sons and three daughters, Evelyn (Clayton) Mowers of Snowflake, Larry James (Terri) Woodside of Ft. Thomas, Ilene (Steven) Williams of Holbrook, Loran Ray (Paula) Woodside, Cindy (Mark) Jones of Mesa, Gary Lyn (Delorse) Woodside of Snowflake and David Hyrum (Debbie) Woodside of Snowflake. He was blessed with 28 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Pauline Bryant of Queen Creek, Betty Sylvester of Buckeye and Rosalee Bennett of Show Low and one brother, Claude Woodside of Milford, Utah. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Marna Rae, son, Loran Ray, sister, Marry Lou, brother Omer Edren, granddaughter, Anna Williams and 2 grandsons, David Brett and Bert Allen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 20 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Main Street Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the Snowflake Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled arrangements.
