Calista Jeannette (C.J.) Rea, 62, of Jefferson City, Missouri, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at her home. She was born November 18, 1944 in Kearney, Neb., a daughter of Bernice B. (Raveling) and Edward B. Curtis. She was baptized into the Christian faith on Dec. 28, 1944 at the home of her grandparents, Peter J. and Calista M. Raveling, by Pastor Moede of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hildreth, Neb. In May of 1958 she renewed her baptismal vows when she was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, Neb. by Rev. Rudolf Staehr. She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson City. She attended school in Nebraska and was a stay at home mom until 1975. She worked 17 years for Montgomery Ward and Co., holding several positions in Nebraska and Colorado prior to transferring to Jefferson City in 1988 as store manager. In 1994, she became office manager for Homemaker Health Care, Inc. until her part-time retirement in 2007. She continued to work part-time for Homemaker Health Care. On Nov. 18, 1990 she married John A. “Jack” Rea of Jefferson City. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, South America and numerous cruises to the Caribbean. She was preceded in death by her parents. Calista is survived by her husband, John;, a daughter and son-in-law, Christal C. and Douglas Gustafson of Scottsdale; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott E. and Julie Campbell of Fountain Hills; one brother and sister-in-law, Galen and Jody Curtis of Omaha, Neb.; one aunt, Goldie H. Palmer of Aberdeen, Wash.; three step-daughters and son-in-laws, Kristi and Terry Klamet of Jefferson City, Mo., Karen and Kevin Jones of Holts Summit, Mo., and Jana and Lance Salmons of Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Devin and Jacob (Stefany) Gustafson of Scottsdale; Calista, Hannah, Elijah and Samuel Campbell of Fountain Hills; six step-grandchildren: Katie (Terrance) Johnson, Bailey Wilson of Jefferson City, Kourtney and Kellin Jones of Holts Summit, Mo., Jack Logan and Lucas Salmons of Jefferson City; two step-great-grandsons, Isaac and Kendric Johnson of Jefferson City; two nephews, Pastor Heath (Rebakah) Curtis of Worden, Ill. and Bryce (Heidi) Curtis of Fort Collins. Also, brothers and sisters-in-laws Don and Nan Cain of Kansas City, J.A. and Alice Breckenbridge, King City, Mo., George Rea of Grain Valley, Mo., Sue Rea of Lathrop, Mo. and Ellen Rea of Lafayette, La. Friends will be received Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, where funeral services will follow. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jefferson City.
