Posted 2009-08-24 by Pat Wilson
Byrene Morris Simkins, a resident of Fountain Hills for over 33 years, passed away Tuesday Aug. 14, 2007.

Byrene was born in Yates City, Illinois, on Dec. 10, 1920. She was the daughter of Louise Coykendall and Byron Morris.

Byrene was preceded in death by her son, Scott, and husband of 67 years, Murray, who she had first met as a freshman in high school.

She is already missed by loved ones in this world, and has already been welcomed by loved ones into the next. Wife of a lobbyist, they lived in Vienna, Va. outside of Washington, D.C. for almost 25 years before retiring to Fountain Hills.

Byrene had been a resident of Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia before coming to Arizona. An avid reader, she was a homemaker, wife and mother, who loved to play bridge, travel the world and, in her youth, follow and participate in various plays of several local drama clubs.

With a scholarship, she attended college at Western Illinois University. A lifelong Lutheran, she will always be remembered by her family and friends as a very loyal and easy going person who took everything in stride.

A natural entertainer, she found beauty in everything and was a fun-loving person who loved a great laugh. She had a beautiful soul that will live on forever.

She is survived by her son, Mark, and his wife, Kitty; her daughter-in-law Martha; and grandchildren Kearn, Lizzy and Andrew and brother-in-law Dean and sisters-in-law Helen and Hazel.

A memorial service was held at the Fountain View Village Chapel on Friday Aug. 24, 2007.

Published August 22, 2007, in the Fountain Hills Times.
