John Scott Stevens was born on Jan. 15, 1916 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Dr. David H. and Ruth D. Stevens. John graduated from the University of Chicago in 1937 where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. He married Marion Kuehn in November of 1939 and they continued to live in their beloved city of Chicago where John worked for Container Corporation. Their first son, Scott, was born in November of 1942. John served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1943 until World War II ended in 1945. He received several medals of distinction and was at the Japanese signing of surrender, serving on the U.S. Gasgonade. Suzanne, their daughter, was born in 1946, closely followed by their second son, David, in 1947. The family moved to Kalamazoo, Mich. in 1950 where John began working for the Sutherland Paper Company as a salesman. During the 38 years he lived in Kalamazoo John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and an active golfer and member of the Gull Lake Country Club. John retired from Brown Paper Company in 1987 as vice president of the dry carton division, and he and Marion moved to Fountain Hills, where he peacefully passed away on Aug., 2, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marion, in 2002. He was a wonderful father and great friend and he will be sorely missed by his children; Scott Stevens of Piedmont, Calif., Suzanne Brooks of El Cerrito, Calif.. and David Stevens of Easton, Maryland, as well as five grandchildren and his two sisters, Anne Hobler of Washington, D.C. and Barbara Monroe of San Diego, Calif.
