Linda L Grommes, beloved wife of Bob Grommes, died at home in Fountain Hills Aug. 1, 2007. Linda was born Linda Behrenwald on Dec 1, 1952, in Lakeview, Mich. She graduated from both Lakeview High School (1971) and Central Michigan University (BS, Computer Science, 1974) as class valedictorian. After graduation, Linda distinguished herself as a systems analyst at Upjohn Corporation in Kalamazoo, Mich. She had a profound love for animals and raised several champion Shetland Sheepdogs. She was also one of the first to bring the rare Shetland Sheep breed to the U.S. at her farm in Allegan, Mich. She founded the North American Shetland Sheep Association to register and preserve the breed. She moved to the Phoenix area in 1996. Linda fought a battle most of her adult life with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and complications. She touched many lives and accomplished much in spite of disabling illness. She faced life with great dignity and courage. She is survived by her husband, Bob, of Fountain Hills; Linda's mother, Leone (Nimberger) Whittum; stepfather Al Whittum; her uncle and aunt, Alger and Shirley Frandsen, all of Lakeview; and Bob's children, Becki Giles of Chicago and Joel Grommes of Mesa, Ariz. Linda's ashes will be scattered near her Arizona home, and near the family farm where she grew up in Lakeview. It was her wish to be remembered as she was in life and held dear in the hearts of her loved ones. A public memorial service celebrating Linda's life was held on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at New Life United Methodist Church, 8544 Howard City - Edmore Rd., two miles east of Lakeview, Mich. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: The Whittemore Peterson Foundation Institute of Neuro-Immune Disease, 6600 N. Wingfield Pkwy. Sparks, NV 89436. Please designate “In Memory of Linda Grommes.” Published August 8, 2007, in the Fountain Hills Times. |
