Howard Crowell

Howard Crowell, affectionately known as “The Captain” in town for the white cap he always wore, passed away on July 10, 2007, after a long battle with heart disease.

He was born in Duluth Minn. on May 10, 1930 to Howard and Minnie (Oie) Crowell.

Howard had a life-long thirst for knowledge, and was once referred to as a “Renaissance Man” for his many interests and accomplishments.

His life-long career was as a civil engineer. After serving his country in Korea, he attended Colorado School of Mines, finishing his studies at Brooklyn Poly Tech, where he was elected to Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Gloria, and their beloved daughter Wendy, who now resides in Minneapolis, Minn.

A memorial service was held in his honor on July 14, 2007 at Messinger Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Valley or Mayo Clinic Development Program.
