Leonard Stephen (Sam) Savner

Leonard Stephen “Sam” Savner passed away on July 2, 2007, in Phoenix.

Born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Wilkes Barre Township, Pennsylvania, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1950.

He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass, retiring after 35 years.

Leonard and first wife Mary Violet Spencer raised four children. He moved to Arizona in 1984, marrying second wife Mary O’Brien, who survives at the home.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Savner; three daughters, Cathy Gilges, Patti Pyne and Elizabeth Lee; three brothers, Richard, Jerry and Robert Savner. Leonard is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild, 4 step-children, 11 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren.

Mr. Savner was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Mary (Sobers) Savner, daughter Sandra Kaye Savner and sister Mildred Zonko.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
