Frank C. (Tucky) Martinez

Posted 2009-08-27 by Edward Peed
Frank “Tucky” C. Martinez passed away on Aug. 21, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospice in Tucson. He was 71 years of age, having been born in Hayden on June 27, 1938. Tucky worked long and hard both as an APS Rig Driver and for Kennecott Copper, putting in 20 years and then some for each. He worked, lived, and loved as a lifelong residence of Winkelman.

Olivia, his wife of 50 years, survives him, as do their four children Linda (Paul) Alvarado, Debbie Martinez, Martin (Christina) Martinez Sr. and Frank Martinez, Jr.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Manuel (Chito) Martinez; four sisters, Christina (Pina) Aventti (George) Armenta, Susie Martinez (Alfredo) Aguirre Delores (Sonny) Martinez, and Alice (Lecha) Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel R. Martinez and Anita C. Martinez; brothers, Mike Martinez and Delberto Martinez; and his sisters, Conche Ortiz, Rita Valdez, Julie Ortega, and Candice Martinez.

Tucky was known to be a man's man; he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a crack shot. He had lots of compadres, friends, and family. He was a man of strength, courage, dignity and his word was bond. He could double time a speedbag, box, and, if needed, “knock you into next week.” As a family man, he was phenomenal. When needed, he took care of all of his children, wife, grandchildren, sisters, and friends. We never had to ask, he was there. He could help us with anything, like the Wizard of Oz dressed in Camos. Superman style, Dad was bigger than life. The world lost a great man.

On Aug. 27, at St. Joseph's Parish in Hayden, there will be a viewing from 9-10 a.m., followed by Rosary at 10 a.m. and the Celebration of Mass at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Father James Aboyi. All are invited to Hayden Golf Course following the burial.

Griffith Mortuary assisted the family.
